Nottingham Forest Memorabilia and Gift Ideas

GoneDigging has a fabulous range of personalised Nottingham Forest merchandise, including unique memorabilia and great gift ideas. Below you will find a selection of our most popular Nottingham Forest gifts, in addition to a few interesting facts about the club.

Brief History of Nottingham Forest FC

Nottingham Forest FC formed in 1865 when a team of ‘shinney’ players decided to switch sports to football. The club’s first major success was winning the FA Cup in 1898, which helped raise money to build the City Ground. Forest had been expected to continue winning titles, but the team did not win another major trophy for over fifty years. Ironically, the Second World War saved the club from folding. The Football League was suspended during the fighting, which allowed Forest more time to pay back debt. Nottingham Forest won the FA Cup for the second time in 1959 and finished runners-up of the First Division in 1967. Brian Clough took over as manager in 1975 and Peter Taylor became his assistant in 1976. Over the next six years they reinforced the squad and won the First Division title, two League Cups and two consecutive European Cups. During this time, Nottingham Forest purchased the first ever one million pound player - Trevor Francis. Taylor left the club in 1982, but Clough went on to win two further domestic cups with Nottingham Forest, before retiring in 1993.

Did you know...

The club was named Nottingham Forest after the Forest Recreation Ground, located just north of Nottingham. This was where the team played their matches in the early days. Contrary to popular belief, the famous Sherwood Forest has no link to the club’s name.

Nottingham Forest moved to the City Ground in 1898 and the club has played here for over a century. In addition to money from FA Cup success, the move was funded by club members, fans and local businessmen as part of the “New Ground Scheme."Bearer bonds were bought at the cost of five pounds and more than £2000 was raised in total. The stadium has a capacity of over 30,000 supporters and it was chosen as a venue for Euro’ 96. Plans for relocation to a bigger ground were announced in 2007.

Although the City Ground stands just 245 yards away from Meadow Lane, home to Notts County, the two clubs have never engaged in a bitter rivalry. This is because they have rarely competed in the same league. Forest’s fiercest rival is Derby County and the two teams contest the East Midlands derby.

Nottingham Forest Memorabilia

We offer an exciting range of personalised Nottingham Forest gifts, which includes various items of Nottingham Forest memorabilia. These presents can be kept for years to come and they are a terrific idea for any fan of the club.

Our Personalised Nottingham Forest Football Book incorporates a variety of match reports from the past one hundred years. Written by journalists who were there at the time, this reproduced newspaper coverage forms a fascinating record of some of the biggest games in the club’s history.

The Football Book opens with Forest’s 5-1 victory against Liverpool in 1908 and it goes on to feature many other high-scoring matches, such as the 12-0 thrashing of Leicester City in 1909, the 0-4 defeat of Manchester United in 1977, the 6-0 win against Chelsea in 1979 and the 6-0 mauling of Stoke City in 2003.The Football Book also contains promotion-clinching games and the 0-0 draw with Coventry City in 1978, which gave Forest the final point they needed to win the First Division title. Cup highlights include the FA Cup win of 1959, the League Cup triumph of 1978 and the 5-0 victory against Ipswich Town later that year in the Charity Shield final. There is extensive coverage of the historic European campaigns of 1979 and 1980, including thrilling ties against FC Cologne, Barcelona, Malmo and Hamburg. We also incorporate articles on the appointment and departure of Brian Clough and the record signing of Trevor Francis.

Twelve of the best match reports are also featured in our Personalised Nottingham Forest Diary and Personalised Nottingham Forest Calendar. Games include the 1978 League Cup final replay against Liverpool and the 1979 European Cup final against Malmo. We also feature the 5-0 thrashings of Birmingham City and West Ham, recorded in 1959 and 1977 respectively, and the dramatic 7-3 victory against Watford in 1982. Both gifts can start from the month of your choice and they are a fantastic way to keep track of future events, whilst reminiscing upon former glory days.

More Gift Ideas

Our Personalised Nottingham Forest Commentaries make unusual and entertaining presents for fans of the club. A professional radio commentator will record an original commentary, based upon your choice of match highlights. Your recipient could become a hero by saving a crucial penalty, providing a great assist or scoring a stunning last-minute goal. In doing so, they could also be nominated as Man of the Match.

Another fun gift idea is a Spoof Newspaper Headline. Recipients can become a famous Nottingham Forest Old-timer, the club’s Player of the Year or even the New England Manager.
